Pursue a career in Medical Coding and Billing with skills received from this program. Gain an understanding of Microsoft Office applications, and core knowledge in:
- Medical terminology
- Anatomy and physiology
- Medical billing and insurance
- Medical ethics and law
- Pharmacology and industry-standard ICD-9 and CPT-4 codes
Additionally, you'll learn about the growing importance of security and privacy of medical records set by HIPAA (Healthcare Insurance, Portability and Accountability Act). Upon the successful completion of all classes, you'll participate in an externship that provides invaluable practical experience under the supervision of a cooperating physician's office, clinic or other healthcare facility.
With this certificate program, you'll prepare for the American Academy of Professional Coders CPC (Certified Professional Coder) certification. Additionally, you'll prepare for the American Health Information Management Association CCS (Certified Coding Specialist) and CCA (Certified Coding Associate) certifications. You'll also establish the foundation to pursue an advanced degree in health information management.
